About us

On a beautiful day in August 2004, we had a big church wedding with all our friends and family wishing us well.

We do a lot together. We live in the city but love going on weekends away to the country. We visit friends with children who live near the ocean; we love hiking and swimming, and bird and animal watching. We are members of a walking and climbing club, and often go camping – we would just love to be able to take a child camping, and collect shells with them on the beach, go shrimping and build sand-castles, and watch the seals and dolphins from the shore.

We live in London England but travel to the US all the time - Frances is a US citizen and has many family and friends there, including her brother in New York and his family, as well as numerous cousins, uncles, aunts, as well as many friends she met through studying and working in the US. Mat’s son is at University in Vermont; Mat also works frequently in the US and has friends and family who live in Connecticut and Maine.

At home in the city we see friends, and go to shows, concerts, and exhibitions with them. The Natural History museum is walking distance away and a great place to visit with kids – we always go there when friends with children visit from overseas. We like doing new things and recently took a class in water-color painting (Mat’s mother was an artist).

We enjoy cooking together and frequently have friends round. We each have our specialties - Mat does an excellent roast, and Frances makes stir-fry. Mat’s hobby is fixing things, and building things (in particular model steam trains), and Frances plays the piano (which she learnt as a child, and loves playing with her toddler niece).

We frequently visit Frances’ parents who live in an old farm house surrounded by fields outside the city, half an hour’s drive away. They have a pool, which is a lot of fun in the summer. We often spend the weekend there and invite friends out for barbeques, swimming and tennis, and all the children love running round exploring the garden and fields, and playing in the pool.

We live in a very international part of London, and have a wide range of friends here, both from London and from around the world. We enjoy traveling and exploring cultures, and between us have visited and worked in many countries. We both speak French and Spanish and go on visits to other parts of Europe (particularly France, Spain and Switzerland) - most capital cities in Western Europe are within a couple of hours flight from London.
